Nawaf's words haunted me, made me terrified of what's coming next. It made me worry of what the future held for me but my gut said that I was ready for anything, even if it was going to cause even more pain.
I had successfully gotten Bibi's approval of letting Nawaf to talk to her. It took hours of discussing over it with her on her fluffy bed but she agreed to it, as long as I was there with her, ready to punch Nawaf if he ever tried to hurt Bibi again. We decided we'd let them speak tomorrow, when Bibi was done with having to study for tests and when the house wouldn't be crowded with our other siblings.
It's like my parents have disappeared. The only people I saw everyday were my Grandmother, Khalti Ghaneema and Khalti Zaina. Whenever I asked about them, they(cousins/aunts/uncles) would tell me they were off at work or off at our new house, getting it all ready and perfect for us to move into it.
I took this as an advantage of trying to spend more time with Saif, letting him help me remember. He showed me all our old drawings, crayons and pictures he kept all these years.
"Ha, any flashbacks yet?" Saif asked, he was sitting on the soft carpet, his knees crossed over each other. He was wearing his comfy white A&F sweatpants, a "I'm sexy and I know it" black shirt. I was sitting next to him, in my sweats and the "YOLO" shirt Ghalia hates.
"La2." I replied with a frown, my eyes skimming over all the pictures of us when we were kids. It was like that little girl wasn't me anymore, it was a girl who was lucky enough to have been there, who spent her childhood with her two little old friends, Nawaf and Saif.
Saif had told me that Nawaf, him and I were the "three musketeers", but when Nawaf had gotten older, he had started to hang out with older kids, ignoring Saif and I altogether. I guessed that was why Khalti Ghaneema had said Nawaf was a "childhood friend".
And then, that's how Saif came in as my best friend, the one who was always there for me.
"Okay, so this isn't helping. I have a better idea. Ta3alay." Saif pressed his hands to the ground to help himself stand up and then, he extended his left hand towards me. I grabbed his hand and he helped me up to my feet. It took a lot of will power to not hold onto his soft hand, his masculine fingers had the effect to make me feel safe.
"Wein rayi7?" I watched Saif as he turned to leave the living room.
"Entay bas ta3alay." Saif said with a contagious smile. I followed him out of the house, he guided me towards the garage which was a large grey building that was attached to the house. There were several cars inside, Saif stopped in front of a black Lexus, his car keys jingling inside his hand.
"Yalla?" Saif gestured to the Lexus, unlocking it with the unlock button on his car keys and waiting for me to approach the car.
"Laa2, ma negder.." I took a step back. Wouldn't it look wrong to be in the car with Saif alone? At least I was in the living room back in the house, a place that was open and not secluded like a bedroom. It wouldn't have looked suspicious if someone caught us. I wasn't used to Kuwait's society but I knew that it wasn't as free minded as Switzerland's.
"Ma ra7 akh6ifich, la t7ateen." Saif joked. Saif noticed my hesitation, he continued: "Hey, YOLO, right?"
"Heey, that doesn't mean we do the wrong things." I ended up laughing, Saif didn't say 'You Only Live Once', he said 'YOLLOW'.
"But it does mean we take risks, do you want to remember or not Amal?" Saif's tone turned serious.
Did I want to remember?
Hell yeah.
"You better be a fast driver, I hate slow drivers." I surrendered and approached the Lexus, climbing into the passenger's seat as Saif climbed into the driver's seat.
"Then you're in luck Miss Amal." Saif gave me a little wink before starting the car, pressing down on the pedal, whizzing out of the garage and making the car drive onto the road in a fast speed.
The speed caused adrenaline to rush into my veins, I felt my stomach drop inside me and I bit my lip hard.
"Etkhafeen?" Saif grinned as he drove even faster.
"La2." I lied. The fear excited me. Saif went over the speed limit even further, causing me to yelp out in fear. The car was speeding down the road, the other car drivers were giving us dirty looks as the car was all over the place.
"Al7een etkhafeen?" Saif chuckled as he heard the fear in my voice.
"La2!" I forced the word out, my hands grabbing the seat. I had my seat belt on and that was the only assurance of safety I had.
I felt a warm hand over my cold one. I turned to look and I found that Saif had put his hand over mine, trying to calm me down.
"Didn't I say I'll always protect you, princess?" Saif said, his eyes on the road as he slowed the car down.
"Ma neseit hal shay." I turned my head away, hiding my scarlet cheeks. I felt Saif's eyes on me as I was watching the road outside the window, trying to look busy. Saif still had his hand over mine, only taking it off once in a while to change the gear of the car.
After 15 minutes, Saif parked the car in front of the sea. There was a Mcdonalds right next to it, a car park with numerous cars and the stretched out sea was right in front of us. The sun rays were glinting off of the reflection of the sea, blinding my eyes a bit but the sight of the sea was beautiful.
-Flashback-
"Amal, shnu labsa?!" Saif snickered. He was wearing his Power Rangers swimsuit and was holding his green plastic bucket. We were on the sand, trying to build a sand castle and were failing drastically. I was wearing my bright pink swimsuit that I was in love with, it had little bows on the side and the word "Barbie" on the back.
"Hathaa el priness crown, offh shfeek? Ma et3arif shay?" I put my hands on my hips. I found a metal sheet that the sea brought back to shore and I decided to put it on my head.
"Hatha crown?!" Saif fell back onto the sand, his hand over his stomach has he laughed as hard as he could.
"Eee! Huff." I stuck out my tongue at him. I tried to readjust the metal sheet on my hair, trying to make it look more like a crown.
"Hatha ger6as!" Saif said in between laughs. He had two missing teeth but his smile was as wide as the sea next to us.
"Laaa2." I stomped on the sand with my little feet, causing a very small thud to erupt.
"Amoula, khala9 ana bayeeblich crown." Saif said in a serious tone.
He got up from the sand and ran to where an old man who was selling toys was standing. I watched him as he was speaking, his smile still intact. I tried to play with the sand, digging my fingers into it, waiting for Saif to be done.
After a few minutes, Saif ran back up to me and in his hand was a plastic tiara. I gasped out loud, it had little pink crystals on it and it was the right size for my head.
"Min wein?!" I exclaimed in wonder.
"Mu giltlch bayeeblich crown?" Saif looked happy with himself. He took a step closer so he could grab the metal sheet off of my head and replace it with the tiara.
"3ajeeb!" I smiled, touching the tiara with my fingers. "Bas Saif, Mama w Baba mu mawjoudeen, ra7aw Marina Mall ely yemna w khalouna m3a el nanny, fa men weinlik el flous?"
"Ana 3ndii bank ekbeer, mu lazem Baba ya36eeni flous!" Saif pouted.
"Okay okay." I huffed and stopped asking questions. We ran to the Mcdonalds next to the sea to get lunch.
The nanny who was with us ordered a happy meal for me but she looked to Saif with sadness.
"Saif, habebi, maku falous for your food. You use your money to buy that tiara for Amal from that old man, didn't you?" I heard the nanny say.
"Laa etgouleen 7ag Amal!" I heard Saif hiss behind me. "Ana mu you3an, 3ady an6ir lema Baba eyee 3shan akel b3ad shway. And it's not Amal, it's PRINCESS Amal... okay?"
"Saif, enta majnoun! Enta ma yakil break fast elyoum, shloun ma ekil ghada b3ad?!" The nanny argued.
"Khala9 Siena! 3ady." Saif said.
-
"Amal?" Saif's voice crushed my memories, bring me back into reality. We were both in the Lexus car again and were staring off at the sea.
"You used your lunch money to buy me that tiara." I said in disbelief.
"Wait, shdarach eb hal shay?!" Saif's eyes widened.
"Your voice was loud, I heard everything." I turned to look at Saif, his eyes were staring into mine. They were the same eyes I stared into when I was a child, they held love and care.
"You remember." Saif smiled to himself, breaking eye contact.
"Laish?" I asked him.
"Laish shareitlich el tiara?" He replied.
"Eee.. laish? Laish ma khaleitny albes el ger6as? I was happy with it." Saif's hand was still over mine, I felt his fingers flinch over mine when I said my words.
"Because I'm not happy with seeing a girl who accepts something that she doesn't deserve. You deserve more than just a tiara, you deserve the world and you don't even know it." Saif took a large intake of breath before saying those words.
"And you deserve more than a girl who can't remember everything." I turned my head away, my eyes filling with tears. This amnesia was killing me, I wished I remembered everything so I wouldn't have to be this girl, this girl who didn't even know her true past.
"I can't control my feelings, I can't choose who I love. But I know one thing, I'm in love with the right girl and she's sitting right in front of me.." Saif's words caused my heart to gallop inside my chest.
"What?" I turned around to face him again, ignoring the tears that were spilling over. He loves me?
"A7bich Amal." Saif breathed out the words, his fingers pushing away my tears gently. "Amal allah yikhaleech la tabcheen, I can't stand watching you cry." Saif's voice was full of pain.
"Binkalim Nawaf bacher w bin3arif kilashay.." Saif said, trying to cheer me up. "Etha ma et7ebeeny, haman hatha 3adi 3nde.. I won't leave your side, even if you don't love me back.."
"I love you too." As I said the words, deep inside me I knew that they were true. The feelings were always there, yet I decided to ignore them, acting as if they hadn't existed. They were there all those years, waiting to erupt and take over me.
"Shnu?!" Saif's eyes widened. "You do..?"
"Eee, I do Saif." I laughed, biting my bottom lip as I was watching Saif become a bit shy.
"Yaa 7yatee. Amout feech." Saif sighed happily, his smile widening. I felt his fingers tighten around me, not wanting to let go. I was turning shy, to the extent that I became speechless. I always had to get myself into awkward situations.
"Esti7at Amal." Saif chuckled to himself, his free hand starting the car.
"Chub, zain?" I laughed.
"Khala9 ma ra7 agoul shay, baskit!" Saif joked.
"Heey, laaa I was joking." I pouted.
"Fdaait'ha el 9aida." Saif laughed again, the atmosphere felt happy and light again.
"Fdaak rou7y." I replied shyly as he was driving again. I watched the road, unable to say anything else after our conversation. I kept replying the conversation back in my head, not believing what had just happened.
"Amal." I heard Saif say after a few minutes. I turned around to look at him, his gaze was intense.
"3younha?" I replied. Saif was driving without having his eyes on the road, we were both too transfixed on each other.
"Will you be mine?" Saif asked, his gaze full of love.
Before I could answer, I noticed Saif's eyes quickly turn back to the road. I did the same and I saw that Saif wasn't driving properly, he was driving towards another car. A car that happened to suddenly drive in front of us, out of nowhere.
Both of our cars collided, causing a large thud and I felt a sharp pain into my chest as the metal of the car had crushed into me. The glass window in front of us shattered into millions of pieces, each piece driving into my skin.
I shut my eyes tight, shutting out the pain and all the blood.
But all I saw before my eyes shut closed, was that Saif wasn't wearing a seat belt and his face had crushed into the car's steering wheel, his beautiful face being covered in blood.
And then.
Everything went black.

Masqué Chapter 11
HEEEY! My cousin got me into the writing mood because we were discussing blogs. :D
IMPORTANT (please read this!): Just to get one thing straight, my stories are based on love that is FICTION. My first story, I based S3ood on someone I know BUT it doesn't mean I have a boyfriend or husband called S3ood, I DO NOT date, ma 3nde hal siwalif, I just enjoy writing.
The truth in the stories are mostly how I base my personality on a character, or choose true life characters and add them into my story or putting my real life family problems into a story. That's it.
Next post might not be tomorrow cus I still didn't get any ideas for ch12, I can't write it until I have my ideas. If not tomorrow then Saturday enshallaa. :D x
Okay thank you for reading this haha;p hope you enjoy the chapter. :D

"Yalla enta rou7 awal." I hissed, standing behind Saif. We were both standing in front of Nawaf's room. Bibi and I had left 360 after shopping in Juicy. Bibi was now studying in her room for her tests and so, I got the chance to be alone with Saif again.
"Mu entay ely tabeen et3rfeen shel salfa?" Saif smirked, turning his head to face me in the wooden floored hall.
"Bas enta okhouh!" I pouted, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Tadreen entay etsaween nefs el 7araka youm kentay e9'3eera?" Saif deepened his laugh, his eyes roaming over my crossed arms and pout-y lips.
"La et'9ayi3 el9agla Saif." I replied in an annoyed tone, trying to hide my rosy cheeks.
"Entow meta ra7 etdoshoun!?" I heard Nawaf's voice, it startled me.
"S-shnu?!" I stuttered. Saif was caught off guard too, his eyes widened in shock as he found Nawaf holding his door open, his hair a mess and he had a loose shirt with a pair of grey sweatpants on.
"9arlekom sa3a ga3deen etsolfoun bara dari." Nawaf complained, his eyes not meeting Saif's or mine. "Al7een shtaboun?"
"Goulena sh9ar bil'9ab6 m3a ahalna." Saif ordered, keeping his tone serious.
"W ana sh3arafny?" Nawaf replied in a careless voice.
"Nawaf la etchathib, enta tadry 3an kilashay. Enta ely kent ga3d bil makteb lema kanow ga3deen yit'hawashoun gabel 13 sena." Saif's words caused Nawaf's eyes finally turned to Saif's.
"W enta sh3arifik eb hal shay?" Nawaf took a step closer to Saif, his height towering over him. Saif kept his confident posture, not taking a step back.
"Shiftik w ent 6ali3 men el dar." Saif kept his eyes leveled with Nawaf's, challenging him to lie again.
"Ma adry 3an shay." Nawaf swiveled his eyes away, taking a step back away from Saif. Nawaf ignored my presence completely.
"Khayif yis7iboun minik sayartik etha gilt shay? El sayara 3ndk aham men bent khaltek?" Saif's voice was full of anger, his fingers were clenched into strong fists.
"La etdakhil khashmik eb shay ma yikhi9ik." Nawaf turned his head away, he was about to shut the door in Saif's angry face but I slipped my foot in between the door, stopping Nawaf from closing the door.
"Hey." Nawaf snapped at me once he found my foot in the way.
"What will it take to get you to tell me what I need to know?" Saif's eyes were on mine, watching me as I fearlessly spoke up to Nawaf.
"What are you willing to offer?" Nawaf finally held back the door, his eyes glazing over my body in an inappropriate way.
"Tara ana mu Dalia." I gave Nawaf a disgusted look, his eyes felt too hard, as if they were trying to inspect every inch of me.
"E7tirim nefsik Nawaf!" Saif ordered, his voice loud and clear. Saif took a step forward, getting closer to Nawaf, stopping Nawaf from getting any closer to me.
"Offh shd3wa ma saweina shay." Nawaf smirked, enjoying Saif's sudden anger and jealousy. "A9lan abe shay thani.."
"Shay thani? Mithil shnu?" I asked curiously.
"Abe Bibi." Nawaf said, his words full of confidence.
What?!
"Lal7een tabeeha b3ad kil ely saweita feeha?!" My voice turned a pitch higher. "Ensaa!" I turned around, giving him my back, getting ready to walk off since the anger inside me was erupting.
I felt Nawaf's hand wrap around my wrist, stopping me in my place. The next thing I felt was Saif's fingers over Nawaf's, yanking Nawaf's fingers off of me.
"Wakher 3anha!" Saif exclaimed, I turned around and found Saif holding Nawaf's arm behind his back in defense.
"W ent mnu 3shan etgouly shnu asawi?! Tara ana okhouk el kber fa kalimny 3adil!" Nawaf grabbed Saif's collar of his shirt, pushing Saif against the wall that created a loud thud to release from the hard wall.
"Bas khala9, beskom hawash!" I yelled, turning my hands into fists and trying to hit Nawaf's back in order to distract him or try to keep him from pinning Saif further against the wall.
Nawaf moved his back backwards, crushing the back of his shoulder against my chest which caused me to fall back onto the floor. I landed on my bottom, my knee grinding against the floor which caused me to wince out in pain.
"Amal!" I heard Saif's voice. I watched Saif as he pushed his knee against Nawaf's leg, where his weak point was.
"Aaa7." Nawaf called out in pain, he buckled his knees and fell back next to me to the ground. Saif hurried over to my side in a split second.
"Feech shay Amal?" Saif asked in a worried tone.
"La2 ma feene shay.. enta?" I asked, worried too. I turned to the right to check on Nawaf, he was sitting up on the ground with a pained expression.
"Aw3idich eni bagoulich kila shay etha a8na3ty Bibi 3shan etkalimny." Nawaf kept his eyes on the ground.
"Shtabi feeha? Mu kafi ely saweita feeha?" I argued, feeling protective of Bibi.
"Ana el ghal6an, okay?" Nawaf confessed, his grimace growing as he finally admitted to his faults.
"Ma ra7 tejra7a zyada.. 9a7?" I asked.
"La2.. bas abe akelimha w b3dain bagoulich kilashay Amal.." Nawaf finally made eye contact. His eyes were full of sadness, Saif was kneeling besides me, watching both of us.
"Okay.." I gave up.
"Bas Amal.." Nawaf said, stopping me from entirely standing up. Saif had his arm around my waist, trying to help me up. My bottom was still in pain from the hard fall.
"Na3am?" I turned around to face him, he was standing now, no longer down on the ground.
"Are you sure you want to know everything?" Nawaf's eyes looked pained as if he was remembering the old memories, the memories he tried to forget with Saif. The memories he kept away from Saif all these years in an attempt to try to protect his brother's care for Amal.
"I'm sure.. why?" I asked, worried. Saif was standing next to me, his arm brushing against mine. I felt goosebumps on my arms once I heard the next words being told by Nawaf:
"Because once you know everything, you won't know who you are anymore. Your life will change forever and your world will fall apart.."

"Uhm, Saif shafni w chan eyee 3shan yisalim 3leina." I lied.
"Eee, um, shlounkom? Shitsawoun?" Saif hid his mischievous smile, trying to look innocent.
"Zeineen, ga3deen nitsawag. Ma 3ndena shay, enta shitsawi? Mu 3ndik gym elyoum?" Bibi gave Saif a suspicious glance.
"Laa2, uhm, my instructor cancelled gym today." Saif lied.
"Aha.." Bibi crossed her arms over her chest. Na8za that said "Okay, salemt w al7een shtabi?"
"Uhm, Amal lazem agoulech shay. Your mom sent me." Saif lied even more, giving Bibi a na8za back that said "This is a private conversation."
"I'll be in the fitting room." Bibi wiggled her eyebrows a bit, still suspicious of the whole thing. I watched Bibi walk back into the fitting room, leaving Saif and I alone.
"Okay, al7een yalla gouly bsr3a gabel ma etrid ti6la3." I said impatiently.
Saif dug his hand into the pockets of his shorts, looking for something. He finally took his hand out, extended it over to me and I found that there was a little ring that could only fit a child's finger. It was plastic and it had a crystal on it, it looked like a toy ring.
-Flash back-
"Yalla Amal, lazem enrou7." I heard a woman's voice but I didn't see her face. My little hello kitty bag was being carried by the woman. Were we going on a trip?
"Wein?" I asked, we were in the airport and the woman was holding onto my wrist painfully, trying to force me to walk faster.
"Binrou7 endawirlich l3ba 7ilwa." The woman said, forcing her voice to sound cheery.
"9ej?!" My face lit up and I willed my legs to walk faster, I wanted that toy desperately. Was it going to be that new Baby Born toy?
I hoped so.
"Eee 7bebti, yalla bsr3a." She nagged at me. I obeyed and walked faster. The airport was surrounded with colours of grey and white, it resembled the waiting rooms for the doctor visits I had to go to.
Those waiting rooms scared me, just like this airport. There were large airplanes outside, waiting for someone to climb into them.
Where were we going?
I was scared of heights, I didn't want to go into an airplane. Not now, not ever. The skies looked as if it was going swallow us up and the clouds didn't look strong enough to carry us if we ever fell out of the plane.
"AMAL!" I heard a familiar voice call out. I turned around, stopping the woman and I from walking. I found Saif running up behind us, I couldn't see who was behind him. My eyes were only on Saif and only him.
"Saif!" I called out, my feet sticking to the ground, unable to move.
"La2 Amal, yalla emshay asra3 wla maku l3ba!" The woman ordered.
"Bas abe Saif eyee m3ana." I begged.
"La2 ma y9eer, yalla asra3!" The woman nearly tore off my arm with the way she was pulling on it, forcing me to move.
"Laish ma y9eer?" I asked.
"Mafi mokan. Ma ra7 en6awil Amal."
"Mafi mokan wein?"
"Amal bas! Emshay w entay sakta." The woman replied in a harsh tone that terrified me. I obeyed her order.
I noticed Saif was still following us, I turned my head around and found someone that caused my heart to flutter in happiness.
Saif was in his shorts and Power Rangers shirt, running as fast as he could. I saw his chest heave from how tired he was. He threw a small metal thing at me since he couldn't run any further. Saif tried his best to run again but his pace was slower, the tiredness had forced him to go slower. He still tried, never stopping for a second., his voice hoarse from the screaming.
I leaned down to grab the metal thing. Now I could see it. It was a little ring. I was about to grab the ring but the woman grabbed my hips, forcing me off of the ground and carried me.
"NOO!" I yelled, my arms trying to claw at the ground to grab the ring.
"AMAL!" Saif yelled out again. My tears were clouding my vision but I knew that ring was supposed to be my princess ring. I had never wanted something so badly as I wanted that ring from Saif.
I couldn't see Saif anymore, the woman forced me into a gate where they had metal detectors. It was like a wall, imprisoning me away from Saif.
-
"Amal?!" I heard Saif's voice, it brought me yet again, back into reality. I was back at the Juicy Couture store again and Saif's arms were around me.
Wait what? Saif's arms were around me?!
"Amal, are you okay?" I could see Saif now, he wasn't so blurry anymore.
"You didn't leave me." I breathed out the words, sighing in relief once the flashback was over with. I could still feel the pain I felt when I was a child, it was still fresh. The scars were still there, there was no ointment that could heal them.
"I'll never leave you, not even if the earth shattered into pieces and forced me into the ground. I'd still be right here, standing next to you." Saif's eyes were genuine and full of pain. "You left me once but I'll never let you leave again."
"Saif, you didn't stop running after me." I stated. Saif let me go, releasing me from his arms. There was no one around us now and I didn't feel any stares on Saif and I in the store.
"And I'll never stop chasing you Amal." Saif sighed a deep sigh that filled his chest. "You remembered?"
"Parts of it, who was the woman Saif? Why was she forcing me to leave you? Was she my mother?" I asked Saif, the pain of leaving him coming back again. The pain filled my veins and made its way into my heart.
"Yes and no." Saif lowered his head, not looking into my eyes.
"No? Why the no?" I asked, confused.
Saif ignored my question. He grabbed my hand in his and pulled it up in front of him. He slid the tiny ring over my pinky finger and the ring was able to fit into my smallest finger.
"I never got the chance to do that." Saif said, staring at my pinky finger.
"Saif, help me remember everything." I pleaded, trying to make eye contact. He let go of my hand and I lost the soft touch of his fingers.
"I can't do it alone." Saif sighed again.
"Who else can help you? You know everything!" I widened my eyes at him.
"I don't know everything, there are things I still don't know Amal.." Saif ran his fingers through his gelled hair, his expression looking troubled.
"Then who can help us?" I asked, hoping that he wouldn't say the name that I thought he would.
"Nawaf."
I'll try my best to have the chapter posted tomorrow night after everything OR will post on Friday.

Masqué Chapter 9
Second chapter today!

"Shfeech etkhizeen?" Nawaf asked me in a harsh tone. I stood up from my chair and walked over to Nawaf's table.
"W enta shfeek tel7agna?" I replied, my tone just as harsh as his. Nawaf's friends looked over to Nawaf in shock, not believing that I had the nerve to talk back. The tables weren't crowded so I didn't have to face getting stared at by the other Kuwaitis.
"Ana al7agkom? HA!" Nawaf laughed sarcastically.
"Nawaf, et3arif eni ma7ib sea food, laish yebtna ehny?" One of Nawaf's friends whispered but I was lucky enough to overhear it. It was enough proof of Nawaf's mission to follow us.
Nawaf looked embarrassed, as if he was just caught. I walked off, letting his friends give him awkward glances. I was finally back in the women's bathroom and Bibi was hiding in a bathroom stall.
"Bibi?" I called out, checking the stalls, looking for Bibi's familiar heels.
"Na3am?" I heard Bibi croak out. She sounded like she was crying.
"Bibi, shfeech?" I hurried over to the first stall, where I heard the source of Bibi's voice.
"M-ma feene shay." Bibi stuttered in between tears.
"Bibi la etchathbeen 3lay, open the door." I leaned my shoulder against the door of the bathroom stall, waiting for Bibi. I heard the locks of the door open and I found Bibi standing, her mascara mixed with her tears that were streaming down her cheeks.
"Bibi.." I murmured sadly. I opened my arms and let Bibi take a step closer so I could hug her.
"Nawaf's my ex." Bibi forced the words out of her mouth, her body shaking in my arms.
"What?!" I exclaimed, taking a step back to look at Bibi.
"We dated last year for a few months and then he broke up with me once he found Dalia." Bibi's shoulders were shaking.
"Ena chithe kan ga3d yigoul 3anich lazga?" I asked.
"Ee.. bas walla ma saweitla shay! I acted like nothing ever happened and I got over him when we broke up. I don't know what's his problem, it's like he has to remind me of the past and cause me even more pain.." Bibi sighed, brushing away her tears with a tissue. I was still in shock, I would have never imagined Bibi dating Nawaf.
"Fashelta jidam elnas." I said, trying to make Bibi smile. Bibi ended up smiling.
"Ha?! SHLOUN?" Bibi gasped, her lips forming into a huge grin.
"Mu giltlch he was following us? I was right and I made sure his friends knew that too. Plus my voice wasn't exactly quiet..." I gave Bibi a small wink.
"AMAL! ENTAY 3AJEEBA." Bibi cheered, wrapping her arms around me once more to give me a rib cracking hug.
"Aaa7, shway shway." I laughed, hugging her back. "Yalla khan rid nakil."
Bibi cleaned herself up, re-applied her mascara and followed me back to our table with a confident posture. When we were seated back at our table, I found that Nawaf was sitting awkwardly alone, his face dug deep into his blackberry. His friends weren't sitting besides him anymore.
Looks like his friends took the option of picking their own restaurant for their lunch.
I was still eager on seeing Saif's reply to my Whatsapp message but I also had to be there for Bibi. Bibi had let go of her blackberry to put more attention and effort into our conversation and I had to do the same for the next two hours.
We ended up going to 360 mall to get macaroons for dessert. We were in Ladurée. (it's a Macaroon store in 360)
"Chocolate or pistachio? Now that is the question." Bibi asked herself, acting goofy.
"Chocolate all the way girlfran'." I acted out my ghetto accent. We ended up buying 4 pieces of chocolate macaroons and 4 pieces of pistachio ones. While Bibi was staring at the cakes next to the macaroons, I took this chance to peak at Saif's Whatsapp chat.
Saif Al-X: No.. you need to remember it, I can't say anything.
Amal Al-X: Saif, I need to know what all of this is about. You have to tell me!
Saif Al-X: Weinich? Bashoufich.
Amal Al-X: -.- ..
Saif Al-X: Mu entay etgouleen tabeen et3arfeen 3an kilashay?
Amal Al-X: Eee bas shloun? Ana 360 m3a Bibi.
Saif Al-X: Okayy yalla bayee al7een.
Amal Al-X: La7tha la2!! You can't do that!
Saif Al-X: Watch me.
3aneed!
"Yalla Amal?" Bibi asked, the macaroon plastic bag in her hand.
"Okay." I replied in a worried tone. I was worrying about how Saif could talk to me when I was with Bibi, in a mall in front of hundreds of people.
After 30 minutes of walking around 360 mall, I had quickly memorized the small air conditioned mall.
My iPhone was ringing out it's old phone ringtone. I looked down and my eyes nearly bulged out as they read the words.
Incoming call: Saif Al-X
"Bibi, uhm, rafeejti men Switzerland is calling. I have to take this, sorry." I lied to Bibi.
"Eee shd3wa 3adi, ana barou7 ashouf etha Juicy Couture 3ndehom tanzeelat." Bibi left my side, leaving me alone.
I pressed on "Accept" and pressed my ear against the phone nervously.
"Aloo?" Saif confidently said into the phone, I could hear the familiar sound of crowds of people in the background. Saif was in 360.
"Hey." I said nervously.
"Weinich Amoul?" Saif's voice was playful. I wasn't used to him calling me "Amoul".
"Madri." I lied.
"Shloun ma tadreen weinich?" Saif chuckled through the phone.
"Bas madri." I bit down on my bottom lip, tasting the vanilla flavor of my mat MAC Rebel lipstick.
"Y3ne lazem adawrich al7een? Tara asaweeha." Saif challenged me.
"Find me if you can." I replied playfully before I hung up on Saif.
I looked up and found Saif far off, wearing beige shorts and a Hollister looking shirt. His hair was spiked up and he had a grin on, his ear was still pressed up against his phone. He was surrounded with three of his friends who were engrossed into a conversation.
I was standing outside of Juicy Couture but in front of it, far off, was an entrance.
Idiot Amal! He used the right entrance!
I hurried into the Juicy Couture store before Saif could catch me looking at him. I found Bibi looking at jumpsuits. Bibi grabbed a bright yellow jumpsuit and gestured to it.
"7lu?" Bibi asked.
"Uhm, ee." I kept turning around, waiting for Saif to run up behind me and shout "BOO!"
"Amal shfeech?" Bibi noticed my nerves taking over me.
"La la wla shay Bibi." I gave her a nervous smile.
Why was I so nervous? I've seen Saif around my Grandmother's house all the time, why was it any different now?
I can't fall for him. I just can't.
The ringtone of my iPhone startled me, crushing my thoughts.
Incoming Call: Saif Al-X
I nervously clicked "Accept" with my shaky fingers as Bibi was busy in the fitting room, trying on the jumpsuit.
"Hey, guess what?" I heard Saif's deep voice through the phone.
"What?" I asked.
"I just saw the most beautiful girl ever." Saif replied. Jealousy poisoned my insides.
"Oh?" I kept my voice emotionless, ignoring the jealousy that was igniting inside of me.
"Sh3rha 6weel, 6oulha 7lu mashallah w 3younha ekbar. Esimha Amal, et3rfeenha?" Saif flirted.
"La2 walla, ma a3rfha." I joked, the jealousy inside of me melting away and my cheeks heating up.
"Ana a3rfha 3adil, khoush bent walla." Saif continued. "Agoul.."
"Goul.." I hoped it wasn't another compliment, my cheeks were already as red as they could be.
"I found you." The phone call was ended and I was surprised to hear Saif's soft voice behind me. I turned around and was facing Saif. He was even taller when he was closer, I had to look up to look at him properly. His gaze was overpowering, it drove my cheeks into becoming ever redder.
"Is Amal blushing?" Saif asked casually.
"L-la2!" I stuttered, trying to take a step backwards. I noticed a few people looking at us.
"Amoul, bagoulich shay." Saif's voice turned serious.
"Saif?" I heard another voice. I turned around to find Bibi in the cute jumpsuit, her eyes widening in shock as she saw both of us speaking.

Bibi and I were in the car, on our way to the village to grab lunch. I still hadn't gotten the chance to peek at the note since Bibi was telling me about this girl in her school who she hates. I was holding the note deep in my hands, holding on to it, as if scared it would disappear any second now.
The note looked like a big piece of paper that was folded multiple times and I was getting curious by the second, I wanted to know what it was.
We finally arrived to the village, beautiful green bushes surrounded the wide area. There were restaurants scattered around the big space with multiple white tables and chairs outside.
"Shrayich nakil eb Fish Market?" Bibi licked her ruby lips hungrily, her eyes glazing over the people who were already seated with their fresh hot cooked meals in front of them.
"Mmm, mishtehya Zubaidi. Yalla." I gave Bibi a smile and followed her, looking over the other restaurants. I hadn't had a proper Zubaidi in ages, Switzerland isn't exactly known for their Arabian fish.
The waiter seated us outside, the weather wasn't that hot and it was beginning to cool down. I felt the slight wind brush into my hair, cooling my skin and hinting the close arrival of winter.
"Bibi, wein el 7amam?" I bit my bottom lip, I couldn't take it anymore, I wanted to see the note!
"Dakhil el ma63am w yem el cashier." Bibi pointed to the door next to the cashier that was obvious outside the glass walls of the restaurant.
"Okay mashkoura." I stood up from my seat and made my way inside the air conditioned restaurant. I hurried into any door, not looking at the signs.
I looked up and found a tall guy in his dish dasha standing in the white tiled bathroom. Shock clouded his expression once he saw me stand in front of him.
AMAL THIS ISN'T THE GIRL'S BATHROOM!
"Uhm, asfa.." I stuttered, my cheeks turning red with embarrassment. At the same exact time as I turned around to leave, the men's bathroom door was open and I found Nawaf standing in front of me with a confused expression.
"Amal?" Nawaf asked, his face twisting in bewilderment. He took a step backwards and checked if the door said "MEN" again and once he noticed that it said "MEN", he turned back to look at me again.
Ugh can this get any worse?!
"Asfa, asfa." I stuttered again, brushing past Nawaf so I can pass him and make my way out of the men's bathroom. The waiter by the cashier gave me a weird look, noticing that I left the men's bathroom.
I ignored his look and hurried into the women's bathroom which was right next to the men's. I sighed in relief once I was in the safe walls of the woman's bathroom.
What was Nawaf doing here? Couldn't he have chosen another place to eat at?
I ignored the questions and took the note out of my hand. Saif's bloody finger print was still on the blank sheet, I traced my fingers over it before unfolding the note, opening it.
The note was an A4 page and inside it was a child's drawing. It was a fail attempt at drawing a shield and sword with little red hearts everywhere. Under the drawing, a sprawled childish handwriting was found. I read the words and it said: "WIL ALWAYZ PROTEKT U - PRINCE SAYF" (Will Always Protect You - Prince Saif).
-flashback-
"Amal, shnu ga3da tirsimeen?" Saif asked, his long hair covering his dark eyes. We were sitting down on the dark blue carpet with furniture surrounding us. There was a wooden wardrobe next to us and it looked like it was the childish version of Saif's bedroom.
"Ameera Amal," I looked at my drawing, feeling proud of myself. Saif peaked at my drawing and it was a stick figure with a huge violet dress and a big gold crown. Next to it, I tried writing my name "PRINSES AMAL" (Princess Amal).
"Wein el Ameer?" Saif asked, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"Ma 3nde wa7id." I frowned, looking up at Saif.
"Ana el prince!" Saif stood up, putting his hands on his hips and trying to look all manly and strong.
"Laaa2, ma 3ndik saif. Ma y9eer etkoun el ameer!" I argued, sticking my tongue out at him.
"3yal ana barsimly saif." Saif huffed, sticking out his bottom lip before grabbing a grey crayon and drawing a shield with a sword.
"Bas el prince w el princess lazem y7boun b3a'9." I pointed out.
Saif listened and added the little tiny red hearts with the red crayon. Once he was done, he tried writing "will always protect you - Saif" in his messy handwriting, misspelling the words.
"Digeega! Lazem asawi shay b3ad." I stood up from the ground and ran across the room to where Saif's toy box was.
"Shitsaween Amal?" Saif giggled at the way I was running.
"En6ir digeega!" I replied in an annoyed tone. I dipped my head into the toy box and looked for the toy sword. I finally found it. I grabbed the sword and ran back over to where Saif was.
"Yalla eg3ad." I ordered.
"Ana ga3d al7een." Saif rolled his eyes.
"Al7een tabee et9eer el ameer wla la2?" I put my hands on my hips, shaking my head in a disapproving way.
"Okay okay enshallah Princess Amal, ana asif." Saif chuckled. I couldn't help but smile at him. I put the sword on his shoulder and then moved it to the second shoulder.
"Shnu ga3da etsaween?" Saif watched me adoringly.
"Madri, chithe ysawoun bil aflam." I replied in a confused tone.
"Y3ne khala9 9irt el prince?" Saif's eyes lit up.
"Eee, I think so?" I bit the inside of my cheek.
"3yal binkoun m3a b3a'9 lel abad?" Saif stood up from the ground, watching me.
"Forever and ever!" I cheered, causing Saif's face to break out in a smile.
- Present day, in the bathroom. -
The sound of someone flushing the toilet brought me back to reality. The memory of Saif and I was so vivid, it didn't seem like a dream anymore. I looked down at the picture in wonder.
Saif had kept this with him all this time?
I dug my iPhone out of my pocket and found that I hadn't deleted Saif off of my contact list yet. I clicked on Whatsapp and clicked on Saif's chat.
Amal Al-X: Forever and ever?
It was as if Saif was waiting for me to text him because he replied in a split second.
Saif Al-X: Forever and ever Princess Amal.. you remembered?
Amal Al-X: Mm.. I did..
Saif Al-X: Do you remember what happened after that day..? ;/
Amal Al-X: No.. what happened?
"Amal? Shitsaween? Ma khale9tay?" I heard Bibi's suspicious voice. I looked up and found her staring at me impatiently.
"Embala khale9t, 6awelt?" I was forced to push my iPhone back into my pocket, hiding the chat with Saif and I.
"Shwaya, shiftay Nawaf?" Bibi said as we walked out of the bathroom, making our way to our table outside. The food had arrived and my Zubaidi was in front of my seat.
"Eee.." I replied, grabbing the napkin.
"Look, he's right there." Bibi nodded her head towards the table behind us. I turned around in my seat, finding Nawaf seated with a couple of other guys in shorts and a short sleeved shirt.
"Heey, la etkhizeen!" Bibi hissed, I quickly turned back around before Nawaf could catch me looking.
"Etgouleen le7egna Nawaf?" I asked Bibi in a hushed tone.
"Laish biyil7agna?" Bibi asked suspiciously.
"Um, la2 never mind." I tried to change the subject, asking Bibi about that girl she hates but my feelings about Saif and Nawaf were twisted. My gut feeling told me Nawaf was following us, he could have overheard Bibi say where we were going.
"Offfh, hal bent lazga walla!" I overheard Nawaf's deep voice behind me.
"Mnu?" I heard another guy ask Nawaf. Probably one of his friends.
"Dalia. W haman bent khaltii lazga 7ad'ha, y3ne offh all the girls are after me. Kahya ga3da jidamna, esimha Bibi. El eg9eera ely labsa aswad." Nawaf hissed, complaining about Bibi's presence.
Bibi overheard Nawaf too because she quickly shot up, her face flushing in embarrassment. Bibi hastily dropped her fork, standing up from her seat and hurrying into the restaurant to where the bathrooms were.
I heard Nawaf and his friends snicker as they watched Bibi hurry in her heels.
I turned around to give Nawaf an evil glare, Nawaf caught it and challenged me back with a dirty look.
"Shfeech etkhizeen?" Nawaf asked me in a harsh tone.
TODAY I'M POSTING NOT JUST 2 CHAPTERS.

This is my little gift/surprise to all of you. :'D (*by the way: I haven't read over the chapters to check if there are any mistakes so if there are, just tell me and I'll correct them: @vieblogue)

It's been 5 dreadful days where all my questions were left unanswered. I was avoiding Nawaf in college and Saif was avoiding me. I made sure to also avoid Asmaa and her clique of tight clothes wearing friends, they screamed out 'trouble'.
All I had was Bibi. I didn't even see much of my parents, they're always busy with work. This is new to me, I was used to having a tight relationship with Mom and Dad. Now, it felt like I was all alone.
"Amal, can you wait for a few minutes 3la ma albes?" Bibi asked, we were planning to go to the village to grab dinner.
"Sure, a few minutes? More like an hour." I laughed.
I was already dressed in my smooth black leather jeans with a tribal patterned shirt that was loose. I had my Chanel bag over my shoulder, my long hair let down and my standard make-up on, which was bronzed blush, mascara, thick winged eyeliner that framed my eyes and nude lipstick that brought more attention to my cupid's bow shaped lips.
"I'll be quick." Bibi pouted, running up to her room, leaving me in the hall alone.
I grabbed my iPhone and started texting Ghalia, asking about her day. I hadn't told Ghalia about the conversation I overheard with my Grandmother and I hadn't told her about Nawaf or Saif. I wished she was next me so I could tell her everything, I needed someone to talk to who I could trust.
I heard a few shouts from the room next to me, those two voices resembled Saif's and Nawaf's. I couldn't stop myself from overhearing their yells, they startled me, causing fear to fill my insides.
"Yal chathab! Al7een a3arif laish gamet t7girny!" The voices boomed out of the thin walls of the house, every word making its way into my ears.
"W entaa shtabi feeha a9lan?!" I heard Nawaf yell.
"Enta ely shtabi feeha?! You were the one who ignored her when we were kids, YOU were the one who didn't let her play with you. I was the one who always stood with her!" Saif replied harshly.
I heard a few things being pushed down to the floor causing thuds of noise. I turned around and hurried over to the door where all the noise was coming from. From all the loud noises, I was guessing that Saif and Nawaf were in a physical fight.
"Give me back the picture, it's not yours!" Saif's voice was loud and filled with anger.
"Shd3wa Saif, kel hatha 3la 9oura w 3la bneya?" Nawaf snickered.
"3a6ny el 9oura wla agoul 7ag Amal kilashay yal 7m-r." Saif threatened.
I took this time to push the door open, ignoring my little voice that told me to keep out of Saif's and Nawaf's business.
Nawaf was standing in front of Saif, his arm trapping Saif. Saif had a bloody nose, his eyes full of fury and anger. Nawaf had a picture in his hand, the same picture of me in the little pink dress I saw him holding that day when I was eaves dropping on him outside his room. Both guys turned around to look at me in shock once she found me staring at them.
"Etgouly shnu Saif?" I asked, my iPhone in my shaky hands. Saif looked over to Nawaf and then back to me.
"Wla shay Amal." Nawaf said, stopping Saif from speaking.
Saif used this chance to push Nawaf off of him, freeing himself. Saif hurried over to me, he did the most surprising thing ever. He grabbed my hand, bring my hand up to his face. I watched his pinky finger wrap around mine.
"W-what are you doing?" I stuttered, my face flushing. Nawaf watched, his nostrils flaring with anger.
"Pinky promise we'll always be best friends." Saif whispered the words, his eyes boring into mine.
-flashback-
We were in the closet again, we were playing hide and seek. I was afraid of the dark.
"Amal, la etkhafeen. Ana m3ach. Pinky promise!" I felt his little fingers wrap around mine, holding it tightly.
"Saif, why won't Nawaf play with us?" I replied, pouting.
"Because he's big and he thinks he's cooler than us." Saif huffed angrily.
It was dark but now I could see his face.
It wasn't Nawaf.
It was Saif all along.
"Legeitkom!" I heard the female voice and the closet doors were pulled open.
"Amal?!" Saif's voice brought me back to reality. Again, I didn't get a chance to get a look at the woman's face but I got the chance on knowing who the little boy was. And it wasn't Nawaf.
"It's you." I breathed the words out, my eyes widening in shock as I was staring at Saif.
"You remember, you remember!" Saif kept repeating, his face breaking out in a smile.
I looked over to Nawaf in disbelief, the memories of Saif and I playing as little kids flooding back into my head. Saif was the little boy, Saif had those dark eyes when he was a child. He resembled Nawaf in many ways but he had a gentler appearance, Nawaf's appearance were sharper.
"But.. Nawaf knew I sang. He said I used to smell like chocolate chip ice cream.." I recited Nawaf's words.
"And flowers." Saif continued my sentence, his pinky still wrapped around mine. Saif's smile faded away, the anger returning. They were Saif's words, not Nawaf's..
"But why did you tell him ena ana 3nde siwalif? Ohwa ely dafa3 3ani.." I remembered the first day again, when I was in Kuwait and Saif had tried to tell Nawaf I had 'siwalif', as in I had a bad reputation.
"Cus I wanted him to back off, but he didn't. He's a player.. He still went after you and lied to you. Ma 9adag rou7a lema shaf shloun tighayertay, lema kena e9ghar kan ya7girna w faj2a al7een yi7ibich." Saif replied, his tone sounding jealous.
Nawaf stood in silence, his eyes not meeting mine.
"Is this true?" I looked to Nawaf, my trust for him shattering into little pieces.
"You two are unbelievable." Nawaf shook his head, he took a few steps forward, trying to walk past me but I grabbed his arm, stopping him.
"Is it true or not?" I repeated the question, my tone cold as ice.
"Eee hatha el 9ij al7een wakhray." Nawaf tore his arm away from my grip, pushing me off so he could walk out of the room.
I was shocked by his behavior. I had judged him wrong all along. He wasn't the sweet guy who had a cold exterior, his cold exterior was as cold as his interior. He was a player alright, and a jerk.
Nawaf had dropped the picture of the little boy and I. Saif crouched down to the ground to grab it, trying to fold it out carefully and iron out the creases with his fingers.
Saif handed the picture to me, I looked at the picture of me in the pink little dress and the little boy with his tongue out. I looked back up and I was dumbfounded.
How could have I not seen this before? Saif had the exact same shaped eyes in the picture, the same dark skin, the same eyes and the same personality as the older Saif that was standing in front of me.
"Bas gilt enik bitkoun doctor lema tikbar.." I said, remembering the old memory of Saif telling me the exact words.
"Kent abe akoun mithil Nawaf bas kebert w al7een 3areft ena bakoun estath w mu doctor. I used to tell Nawaf about you, all the time. That's how he knew about everything, your scent, your looks, that's how we acted to be me.. I missed you Amal, I had to act like I didn't remember you or else.." Saif's eyes were sad and lowered down to the ground.
"Or else what Saif?" I begged him to continue. "Saif, what's going on?"
"I can't tell you." Saif's eyes were torn away from mine. "You still don't remember everything."
"Help me remember." I pleaded, trying to force his eyes to look into mine.
"I wish you were the old Amal I used to know." Saif stated the words while his tone had a trace of pain, he avoided my question.
I was still astonished. All those words Nawaf had told me were fake, he was full of lies. And Saif, who was always there, trying to befriend me, was the little boy all along. I wished I could remember, all I had were these snippets of my memories, they weren't enough to help me remember.
"I'm still her." I whispered back, still holding onto the picture of Saif and I.
"The old Amal hated anything to do with Law and she smiled more often.." Saif looked at me, his nose still dripping with blood with the fight he had with Nawaf.
"How can I smile when there's so much going on? Especially when I don't even know anything about what's going on.. All these secrets and lies, I can't take it anymore." I felt worn out and tired. Everyone around me knew something I didn't, I felt like a doll that was being played and pushed around with. I was defenseless.
I grabbed a tissue from the tissue box on the table next to me and used it to dab at Saif's bloody nose.
"You're bleeding." I sighed, carefully trying to clean his nose up without hurting him.
"Seeing you walk around and not knowing who I am is a lot more painful than this bloody nose." Saif's eyes wouldn't meet mine again. I felt a little piece of my heart break as I watched Saif's sadness increase. I ignored his words and went back to cleaning up his nose.
"Is Dalia really your ex?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"No." Saif grinned.
"Then why'd you say she was?" I was still cleaning up his bloody nose, I noticed a few drops of blood over his A&F shirt.
"I needed an excuse to want you back then. It's kind of creepy to go up to a girl you met for a few days and ask her out you know. And I couldn't tell you that I knew you for years." Saif's shoulders were sagging, showing the pain he had went through.
"You're full of surprises." I laughed softly, finally done with leaning up his nose. Saif took a step closer, closing the space between us. I felt the air become hotter aorund us and the atmosphere was even more tense than it was when I was alone with Nawaf a few days ago.
"And there are more surprises to come Amal." Saif's words were said in a serious tone, causing my heart to gallop inside my chest.
"Like what?" I challenged him.
"Like.."
"Amal! Yalla I'm done." I heard Bibi's voice, she cut off Saif's words.
Saif quickly took a step away from me once he noticed Bibi standing behind us.
I turned around and hid the bloody tissues behind my back. I felt Saif's fingers brush over mine, taking the bloody tissues away from my hands which were hidden behind my back. His skin was soft and gentle.
"Yalla." I took a huge breath, catching the scent of Saif's D&G men perfume. I gave Saif one last glance before having to walk away.
I wished I had more time with him, he wasn't the Saif I met on the first day. He was the little boy who cared about me, who had been there for me in our young years. I saw in a different light now.
I noticed a little note in the pocket of my Chanel bag while I was walking towards the entrance of the house behind Bibi.
There was a bloody finger print over the little note and that gave me the hint that the note was from Saif, he must have slipped it into my bag when I had my back to him.
I was eager to open the note, wanting to see what was written in it.
This is going to be a shocking chapter. >:D Mwahaha! And more shocking chapters to come. xo

Masqué Chapter 6
Started this chapter on Friday 3:44am. I'm extremely tired but I got the writing mood and I missed writing. Yeah, writing could be tiring since it takes me 2 hours to write a chapter (I take ages with thinking and planning) but it's a joy as well. I hope you enjoy this chapter, sorry for keeping you waiting.
And if you find any mistakes, please tell me. I was too tired to check over my writing, I erased ch6 and re-wrote it 2 times. x_x

I turned my head to the right and found Dalia standing in the doorway. Fury were swimming inside her eyes as she laid them on Nawaf and I. Nawaf quickly backed away, putting more space between us.
And suddenly, I wished Nawaf was close again. It was better than the distance between us.
"Hey Dalouy." Nawaf gave Dalia an easy smile that burnt my insides.
"7bebi, I missed you." Dalia pouted, using her dalou3a voice. Her eyes kept moving from Nawaf's and then to mine. I took a step forward, walking past Nawaf.
Nawaf's head turned, staring at my back as I walked away. I brushed Dalia off, pushing her out of my way as I made my way out of my bedroom.
"Amal!" I heard Nawaf call out but I kept walking.
And this time, Nawaf didn't follow me.
My grandmother's house was literally huge. It wasn't hard to get lost in the hallways. I picked a random door to push open, not caring if I walked in on someone.
I ended up in an office/library room, there wasn't anyone in sight. There were hordes of books surrounding me, I felt at peace. I love the old and new smell of the pages and binders, which were creeping into my nostrils.
I brushed my fingers over the books, letting my fingers feel the engravings of each book. It was like a huge library with a mahogany desk in the middle, the rugs were deep red that complimented the brown colours of the room. I couldn't help but notice that there were numerous pictures all over the desk.
My eyes betrayed me, they quickly laid themselves over the desk, catching the images of the pictures. They were pictures of little children. I took a few steps closer to the desk, looking at the pictures.
One of the pictures had the little boy in them, with a big wide grin and a blue shirt on. But my eye caught one picture, it was a picture of me. I wasn't a child, I looked about 15 years old. Back then, my hair was a lot shorter. The picture was taken when I was walking alone, I remember that day. I was by the stores in Switzerland, trying to find a cute dress for Ghalia's birthday party.
Who took this picture of me? I looked over the other images. It was pictures of me again, when I was 14 years old, 17 years old, 7 years old. All pictures taken of me in Switzerland when I didn't know.
This was too creepy. The insides of my palms started to feel sweaty, the room didn't feel secure and safe anymore, the scent of the books weren't calming, my surroundings felt terrifying.
I heard a voice outside the room and I watched the door's knob turn around a few times.
Someone was about to come inside.
I did the first thing that came into my mind.
And that was kneel down and hide under the desk.
"We have to tell her. Najla is trying to take her away, she's planning to move back to Switzerland next week." I heard a female's voice, an old kind voice. Was it my grandmother?
"Yuma, ma y9eer takhith Amal! Won't Amal find it suspicious? We have to stop Najla." The second voice resembled Khalti Ghaneema's voice.
"Amal doesn't remember anything. If only she hadn't hit her head when she was young.." Grandma's voice was filled with sadness.
"If she didn't get amnesia, she would have remembered everything.. we have to stop them before they take her away again, they can't take her away from her family!" Khalti Ghaneema's voice was full of anger.
"We'll stop them. We have proof of their bribery, if they take Amal away, they'll lose every cent of what they got from their business." The voice of my Grandmother was growing closer. Was she getting closer to the desk? I prayed mentally that she wasn't, I was fidgeting under the desk. It was uncomfortable, my knee was grinding against the hard wooden floors, causing me pain.
"And what then? What if she stays? She doesn't even know anything about us and she never will. Did you see how she gave Nawaf and Saif a confused look? She didn't even remember her old childhood friend much rather remember her home country that she's been living in for 4 years." Khalti Ghaneema tsked in a disapproved tone.
"She'll remember in time. And when she does, her world will fall apart." Those were the last words I heard before I heard the door open and close. I was alone again. Alone in this dark room, filled with pictures of me, words that were hanging in the air, confusing me and frightening me even further.
So Nawaf wasn't lying about the amnesia thing? And those memories/images were flashbacks? Was I getting some of my memory back?
And why would my parents lie to me all those years? They must have had an explanation, right? The way they spoke about my mother wasn't in a kind tone, I sensed hatred behind their voices towards my mother. (*Najla is Amal's mother's name.)
What did my mother do?
All these endless questions.. And no one to answer them.
"Amal?" I heard a familiar deep voice that startled me, it caused me to stand up quickly and hit my head accidentally against the desk's overhead.
"Aaa7." I winced, rubbing the spot where my head hit the desk. I looked up and found Saif with a grin on his face.
"Shitsaween?" Saif smirked. I got out of my hiding place and found that the pictures of me on the desk weren't there anymore. Did my aunt and grandmother take them?
"Uhm, kent, uhm." I tried to look for an excuse. "Exploring the house. Yes, I was exploring the house." I tried to hide my shaky hands, I was still in shock. My mind was trying to progress the words I just heard from Grandma and Khalti Ghaneema.
"Aha, legeitay shay 7lu?" Saif teased.
"La2." I bit the inside of my cheek, standing up properly and making my way towards the door, trying to escape.
"Tara el 3asha wi9al." Saif followed me out of the room, his grin still in place. He was enjoying this, he knew he caught me doing something but he wasn't pressuring me into saying anything.
We passed an angry looking Nawaf, I avoided his eyes, ignoring his presence. I could have sworn I felt a hint of jealousy from Nawaf once he saw me follow Saif down to the living room, towards where our Maki take out was.
That night was a sleepless night for me. I kept rolling around in bed, with thoughts disturbing my sleep. I hated it when over thinking took over most of my nights. I ended up falling asleep at 4 am, when my eyes surrendered and shut themselves by force.
-
"Excited for your first day at Kuwait University?" Bibi asked, she was in her school uniform which was a plaid skirt and a button down white shirt. We were sitting by the table, munching down on our breakfast while most of our parents were already away at work. I haven't seen my parents in a while, I felt like they were trying to avoid the whole house, including me and my questions.
"Sure." I replied, I wasn't looking forward to going to KU because I knew I'd see Nawaf there, there was no escape.
I was in a pair of comfy Juicy navy sweatpants and a cropped shirt. I was used to wearing comfy clothes to university back in Switzerland but I was shocked to find Asmaa wearing a tight pair of jeans that hugged her curves and a low cut shirt.
"Asmaa, wein ray7a?" I asked, confused.
"Jam3a, y3ne wein?" Asmaa replied in annoyance, she was still grumpy. The housekeeper had to force her out of bed this morning.
"She usually dresses like that for university." Bibi leaned closer to my ear to whisper into it. I looked down at my casual clothes and felt out of place.
"Shnu, lal7een ma lebestay?" Asmaa looked over my attire but then she noticed my Hermes shoulder bag next to me and said; "Oh, lebestay.."
I ignored Asmaa, I wasn't going to dress up for university. I had eyeliner, mascara, bronzer and light lip gloss for my make up which was my standard everyday make up. My long curls were cascading down my back, my ray bans used as a hair band.
Asmaa had a way to provoke a person through kindness, she would criticize you with her eyes or her sweet tone, but under that fake layer, she was cruel as her friends.
"Eee lebest." I gave her a toothy smile, grabbing my cup of coffee and bag before leaving the house.
"Kamro, I'll drive." I said to the driver, he had the Porsche keys in his hand.
"Akeed mama Amal?" He replied in a worried tone. "Enti 3arif soug?"
"Akeed, ana 18, shloun ma a3arif?" I laughed, grabbing the keys. Asmaa was standing behind me, hearing every word.
"You can't drive! You have to be 20 years old in this house to drive." Asmaa's voice was venomous.
"Not by Kuwaiti law." I shrugged, climbing into the driver's seat. "Al7een bitirkaboun wla la2?"
Bibi hurried behind Asmaa, taking the passenger seat next to me.
"La2, Kamro is going to drive me. Yalla Kamro," Asmaa ordered the driver in a harsh tone. I felt sorry for Kamro for having to deal with Asmaa's grumpiness every morning.
"Ciao." (It means bye), I gave Asmaa a little wave, putting the keys into ignition once Bibi and her twin brother Turki were in the car. I controlled the car easily with my hands, I missed driving and the freedom I felt from it.
"Medristy yem KU, ana badeleech." Bibi said, her eyes absorbed into texting. Her hair was up in a ponytail and I couldn't help but notice that she had mascara on. Turki was seated behind us, his eyes too absorbed into his books. These two siblings seemed the opposite of each other.
I found my way to Bibi's and Turki's high school easily, I dropped both of them off and called Kamro for instructions on to how I could get to KU. He was a sweet man, he was patient and told me how to get to my new college.
The college had swarms of cars parked outside in the parking area, my eyes looked over the Range Rovers, Audis and a few BMWs. I parked the car in the first parking space I found and climbed out of the dark red Porsche. The college was much smaller than the college in Switzerland I attended and it was closed instead of opened because of the heat in Kuwait.
I noticed Asmaa was standing outside with Dalia and another girl who was wearing the same tight jeans as Asmaa's. Asmaa was getting a few stares from other guys but their stares weren't on her face, the stares were on her large exposed bottom.
"Amal!" I heard my name being called out. I turned around to find Saif with a huge grin on his face, his hands holding a few textbooks. He was standing with his friends but he left them to approach me, he was wearing a cap over his hair, a polo shirt and casual beige shorts.
"Hey." I started walking towards the entrance, letting Saif follow me.
"Ma gilteely, what's your major?" Saif took off his cap, running his fingers through his wavy hair, ruffling it up.
"Law, what about you?" I was in the building now, trying to find my first class and Saif was still by my side.
"World History, I want to be a teacher." Saif said in a serious tone. He caught me by surprise, causing me to stop walking and turn towards him to look at him.
"9ej?" I never imagined Saif as a teacher, not a History teacher.
"Eee." Saif widened his smile, looking confident about his option.
"Allah yiwafgik enshallah." I replied politely. I finally found my first class, I was about to enter and leave Saif standing alone but he stopped me by grabbing my elbow gently. I felt the soft callouses of his fingers against my skin which surprised me.
"Amal, digeega." His voice wasn't so playful anymore. I turned around to face him, his eyes boring into mine.
"Fee shay?" I asked, trying to put distance between us.
"Amal, shfeech?" Saif asked, sounding a bit sad. He must have sensed how emotionless I was towards him.
"Ma feene shay." Lie. Lie. Lie.
I was still thinking about yesterday, what my Grandmother had said and about Nawaf's behavior. I was also confused about Saif and why he was putting so much effort into trying to talk to me, trying to befriend me.
Was it some contest with his brother Nawaf? Or was it genuine?
"I'm not letting you go into your class until you tell me what's wrong." Saif sounded dead serious.
"Saif, khala9 ma feene shay. I don't want to be late to my first class." I tried turning around again but Saif's hand was still wrapped around my elbow, trapping me. I was noticing that most of the students were in the class now and my worries about being late began to exceed.
"It's Nawaf, isn't it?" Saif asked, his tone sounded hurt.
"What?" I faced him again, his eyes weren't meeting mine anymore but I could see a hint of anger behind his usually playful eyes.
"Nothing, enjoy your first day at KU. I have to go to class now." Saif still wouldn't meet my eyes, he turned around and walked away.
I watched Saif's back disappear into the crowd of people with one thought crossing my mind.
Was Saif jealous?
